"This fall, his inner circle will pay him back. On Nov. 18, the 4,000-square-foot Box Gallery in West Palm Beach will host “Aesthetics and Surrealism,” a 10-year retrospective and de Beaufort’s first solo exhibition. Paired with his paintings will be new performance-art piece “Macroaggression,” in which 20 nude men and women covered in red and blue body paint will hold machetes and pitchforks. It’s an idea he says carries obvious political overtones but also themes of tribal identity masculinity and gender."--SunSentinel

West Palm Beach-The Box Gallery will be presenting “Aesthetics and Surrealism: Jacques de Beaufort 10 Year Retrospective” an exhibition looking back on a decade of paintings and drawings by Lake Worth artist and Palm Beach State College Professor, Jacques de Beaufort.

“Certain ideas and images are timeless and my intent is to work in the contemporary space, but to always be reaching for a realm that exists outside of now but simultaneous with both the past and present.”- Jacques de Beaufort.
This exhibition traces the course of several distinct threads that de Beaufort has woven together to form a tapestry of visionary significance. Inspired by Surrealist and Symbolist painters, De Beaufort’s evocative body of work is inhabited with mysterious and otherworldly figures and phantoms that the artist brings to life with his virtuoso technique. Recent paintings deal with tribal and spiritual identities as well as an examination of contemporary masculinity and gender.

Concurrent with the exhibition opening de Beaufort will be presenting “MACROAGRRESSION in Red and Blue” a performance piece in which participants will disrobe and then be painted in red or blue body-paint, given a machete or a pitchfork, and then asked to mingle with gallery guests. The project is a meditation on and visualization of political and cultural tribal identities and the inter-psychic violence that accompanies the democratic process.
