"MACROAGGRESSION in Red and Blue"
by Jacques de Beaufort

Macroaggression in Red and Blue: a Performance Piece by Jacques de Beaufort” an interactive performance piece de Beaufort will be creating to run during the opening reception of his solo exhibition "Aesthetics and Surrealism" at The Box Gallery.

Participants will disrobe and then be painted in red or blue body paint, and then asked to mingle with gallery guests. The paint will be make-up grade non-toxic and water washable. The project is a meditation on and visualization of political and cultural tribal identities and the inter-psychic violence that accompanies the democratic process.
“I’ve become interested in how the recent political polarization surrounding this Presidential election has served as a dehumanizing and dissociative social mechanism. It’s my intention to literalize the left/right tribal identities and to force the viewer to confront the totalitarian consequences of affiliation that are associated with identity politics. There is no room for the individual in “group identity”, and the newly minted other….the “enemy” is similarly stripped of their humanity and existential legitimacy in order to serve an ideology. The end justifies the means and Symbolic and literal violence follow in short order.” -Jacques de Beaufort

The Most Awaited Solo Exhibition of the Year! Jacques de Beaufort: Aesthetics and Surrealism Opens at The Box Gallery

West Palm Beach-The Box Gallery will be presenting “Aesthetics and Surrealism: Jacques de Beaufort 10 Year Retrospective” an exhibition looking back on a decade of paintings and drawings by Lake Worth artist and Palm Beach State College Professor, Jacques de Beaufort.
“Certain ideas and images are timeless and my intent is to work in the contemporary space, but to always be reaching for a realm that exists outside of now but simultaneous with both the past and present.”- Jacques de Beaufort.

This exhibition traces the course of several distinct threads that de Beaufort has woven together to form a tapestry of visionary significance. Inspired by Surrealist and Symbolist painters, De Beaufort’s evocative body of work is inhabited with mysterious and otherworldly figures and phantoms that the artist brings to life with his virtuoso technique. Recent paintings deal with tribal and spiritual identities as well as an examination of contemporary masculinity and gender.
