Rolando Chang Barrero is an American painter, filmmaker, performance artist, activist, & arts advocate.
Joel Gaitan is a painter and ceramist whose work studies matters of self-identity, sexuality, cultura Nicaragüense, and ancestral linage.
Brenda Medina is a Dominican journalist who writes about racial and gender disparities, immigration, racism and identity in the United States and Latin America.
Moderated by Gladys Ramirez, Norton Museum's Public Programs Manager. 

About the Panelists

Brenda Medina

Brenda Medina is a Dominican journalist based in New Jersey. She has worked at ProPublica, the Miami Herald/el Nuevo Herald and El Sentinel, the Sun Sentinel’s Spanish weekly. She has written about racial and gender disparities, immigration, racism and identity in the United States and Latin America and has been part of several public corruption investigations. Joel Gaitan

While celebrating life, death, and the afterlife, Joel Gaitan’s work studies the matters of self-identity, sexuality, cultura, and ancestral linage. From forgotten tongues, to erased cultures, Joel immerses into traditional hand building clay techniques, keeping a sacred tradition alive in a colonized world. Joel highlights cultura Nicaragüense with oil paints depicting portraits, utilizing elements of poetry, colors, and storytelling. With pottery and painting, Joel Gaitan pays homage to the ancestors; those who have been encountered, and those who have not.

Rolando Chang Barrero

Rolando Chang Barrero is an American painter, filmmaker, performance artist, activist, & arts advocate. Resides in the City of West Palm Beach, Florida, USA. where he is the curator of one of South Florida's Best Art Gallery: The Box Gallery. Rolando is a graduate and Alumni of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he received two academic scholarships and graduated with the lauded Ryerson Traveling Fellowship. He serves the community on various non-profit boards and is currently the President of the PBC Democratic Hispanic Chapter, Delegate of the Florida Democratic Party.
